James Dean was an American actor whose brief five-year career left an enduring impact on cinema and popular culture. Born in Marion, he was the only child of Mildred Marie Wilson and Winton Dean. After his mother’s death from uterine cancer when he was nine, Dean was sent to live with his aunt and uncle on their farm in Fairmount, Indiana, where he was raised in a Quaker household.
